Armadillo Character Design Concept

This is a character concept that I designed for the BYU Animation project this year. My wife nicknamed it Flossi. My objective for this one was to create an original armadillo character that would make a good designer vinyl toy like the ones you see on Kid Robot. Who knows - maybe I'll get it manufactured someday and put it on my desk.

Fish Character Design Concept

This was a character concept that I designed for the BYU Animation project I'm working on. I didn't find out until after I finished the design that the story is about roadkill. So, now you can buy a royalty-free license and download it at Stockazoo.com.

Goldilocks Character Design Concept

This was a character design that I did for the Goldilocks Goes To School commercial which promoted BYU On-Campus Housing. This 1950's retro style character and theme was my preferred direction for the Goldilocks promo. I was really excited to age the look of the movie, so I was a bit disappointed to leave this version of Goldi in the dust. But, she's immortally preserved in my portfolio for future generations to appreciate.

Goldilocks Goes To School

The video production manager at SAS Creative Marketing was going through the archives of previous SAS promotions and discovered some 1989 radio ads for On-Campus Housing. They were really unique and kind of funny, so we decided to re-license some of the audio recordings for web distribution. Then, I created an animated front-end to complete the commercial in Illustrator, Flash, and After Effects and published it online. Here's a peek at the final product: Goldilocks Goes To School

The Viaggio Group

The Viaggio Group (a group of consultants for real estate professionals) needed a new look for their simple web site and promotional materials. I created a completely new look for them based on their requests. They wanted a classic Italian cinema theme with the feeling of relaxing ocean waves represented to illustrate the meaning of their name (Viaggio = Voyage). The site needed to have motion but remain clean and professional.

Barbershop Game

This is a shot of two of the finished characters from the BYU Barbershop flash game that I'm working on at SAS Creative Marketing. Obviously, Cosmo is the one with the scissors and clippers. Watch out!

Wolf vs. Hood

This early Flash animation was completed in the year 2000 in connection with my BFA project for the Illustration program at BYU. The story, written by me, was the "true story" of the legal battle between an upset wolf who had been accused of a crime he didn't commit and a corrupt southern community that was determined to see him hang. Although the concept was pretty funny and was drawn from my childhood years in North Carolina, it was offensive to pretty much everyone else who grew up in the south. So, needless to say, it never really took off.

Homestar Flash Commercial

HomeStar needed some intense visuals to create hype for their products on their web site in 2001. This Flash animated commercial summarized the products and services that HomeStar had to offer in a short, exciting presentation. The commercial can be viewed at: http://www.johnlepinski.com/flashmedia/homestar.html
